Founded in 2008 by serial entrepreneur and design connoisseur Zhou Yuan, CHairEYES is a Shanghai based eyewear label featuring handcrafted, 70s-inspired glasses and sunglasses.
Fascinated by the natural patterns and colors of traditional Chinese mineral stones, Yuan developed its own cellulose acetate through complex colorations that generate the desired transparency, color and finish as seen in the CHairEYES turquoise, jade, amber, and Chinese liuli glasses. Each pair of CHairEYES eyewear is painstakingly cut, polished and assembled by local craftsmen, and cased in a marble-patterned leather box.
In a market brimming with fast fashion and mass-produced products, CHairEYES wants to sit down and take the time to create timeless pieces, hence the name “CHairEYES.”
Since its debut collection, CHairEYES has built a strong following globally. Its stylish eyewear can be found in Vogue, ELLE, Vanity Fair, Wallpaper, Monocle, GQ, WWD, SURFACE and etc., or seen on celebrities including Lady Gaga, cultural icon Mr.Chow, Hong Kong actor Cecilia Cheung and many others. CHairEyes often collaborates with rising Chinese fashion designers such as Vega Zaishi Wang and Xander Zhou to create special runway collections.
Zhou Yuan is a young man wearing many hats: graphic designer, stylist, fashion editor, clothing designer, furniture designer [Satie Shanghai], eyewear designer, avid vintage eyewear collector and a night runner [Dark Runner].
